The First Step – The Start of The RnB Window Cleaning Journey
We were contacted by one of our clients who coached the local Junior Football Club. They were putting together a raffle and asked if we could provide a prize.
We offered a free website to the lucky ticket holder.
Pete entered the raffle and won a completely free website. We often joke with Pete that we won him in a raffle. We never did find out if he was the first prize or the runners up prize.
Either way, the timing was right.
The First Chat
Our first contact with Pete felt like a missing sketch from Monty Python.
We decided on a video call. When the call connected, I saw a man standing in a teal coloured laundry basket with a blonde wig on his head. He had balanced the round laundry basket lid on top of his head.
I spoke to Pete for around forty minutes. I came away knowing he wanted a website, and he agreed he wanted one too. I was more entertained than informed.
But then Pete shared something that stopped me in my tracks.
After telling me his backstory, it was impossible not to think about how someone can come from a very dark place and turn it into something positive.
Pete had an eight week old baby boy. His son was in and out of hospital due to complications. During this time, his employer decided to fire him by text message. Here was Pete with no job, a newborn with health concerns, and a decision to make that would shape his future.
Building Something Real
Pete did not let this define him.
He found part time work and began building what became RnB Window Cleaning. In partnership with his brother in law Tom, he decided to go it alone.
In the early days, Pete was on his own.
Mornings were spent driving a minibus. Mid mornings were spent delivering flyers or cleaning windows. Evenings meant returning to the minibus driving job.
While Tom was still employed elsewhere, Pete worked every waking hour to build the business so that Tom could eventually join him. I believe that the RnB Window Cleaning Journey would look very different if they put a website before finding their feet.
This was not about shortcuts. It was about graft.
The Journey
Pete’s positivity shines through. I am not saying Pete is superhuman. But if you turn him upside down and look closely, you will see all the hallmarks of a true entrepreneur.
I know from regular contact that Pete has low moments too. These usually occur when the football team he supports loses a match. It might be time to give up on Accrington Stanley.
Joking aside, when new clients come to us, we often point them to the RnB website and ask them to look at what Pete has built.
Pete has proved you can be a bit bonkers and run a business. From that first video call that was a cross between Monty Python and Britons Got Talent shows that people don’t buy corporate, they buy people. I would say anyone running a business has that bonkers side to their personality, it’s why businesses work.
We can go several weeks and not hear from Pete. We don’t chase, it’s a business that is busy. But we can always be guaranteed of a full song whenever he calls. Pete is not just bringing light into homes across Greater Manchester with RnB Window Cleaning’s 5 star service. He sprinkles light just by being himself. A little bit bonkers.
The Website’s Role
With the RnB Window Cleaning website, we have been incredibly fortunate.
Pete has trusted us enough to experiment, refine, and slowly shape the site to suit the RnB vision. It is rare to find a client who understands that it is better to have something good and improve it over time than to wait for perfection.
The website has never been the business. It has supported the business.
Each improvement has helped Pete, Tom, and Rachel stay focused on what matters most. Providing good service to their customers.
The Result – The RnB Window Cleaning Journey To Date!
Since May 2018, RnB Window Cleaning has grown from a one man operation into a business running five vans on the road every day.
A website was not essential at the beginning. But as the business grew, Pete saw the value in having a website that supported ongoing digital efforts and steady growth.
RnB Window Cleaning is one of our clients who lives our core value of always be helping.
The real question is not what a website can do on its own.
The question is when it makes sense to add one to a journey that is already moving forward.
